Principles of 20. FeministQueer Summer Action (Feministyczno-Queerowej Akcji Letniej -FALa – eng. WAVE) 2024

WHAT IS FALA?
FALA is a feminist-queer summer camp for women and girls, transgender and non-binary people.
FALA is a space for learning, development, mutual reinforcement and regeneration.
It is organized by people who participated in the camp at least once. This means that the composition of the FALA organizing group changes every year, and at the same time the experience of its members ensures continuity for the FALA. The FALA is co-created by all people who participate in it.

VALUES ON WHICH THE 2024 WAVE IS BASED
The values on which FALA is based are: safety, inclusion, openness and equality.
We strive to make FALA a space:

  • safe, i.e. one in which each person undertakes not to use violence, respect the mental and physical boundaries of other people and animals, and in which the participants undertake to respond to violence;
  • inclusive, that is, one in which diversity is respected and appreciated, and in which we actively strive to minimize barriers that may hinder entry to the FALA and participation in it, as well as to practice solidarity; FALA strives to be as accessible as possible to participants regardless of their ethnic and national origin, citizenship, age, sexual orientation, health status, degree of fitness and economic status;
  • open, i.e. one in which different opinions and points of view can be expressed, heard and discussed with respect for others;
  • equality, that is, one that is based on respect for the needs and autonomy of all persons and in which each of the participating persons has the same rights.

PERSONS PARTICIPATING IN FALa
A total of about 80 people can participate in FALa including about 65 adults and 15 children over the age of 3. FALa is dedicated to adults, you can come to it with children.

Participation of children
The following may participate in FALA:
– cisgirls and non-binary and transgender children aged 3-13; older children participate in FALa on the same terms as adults,
cisboys aged 3-11

During the classes for adults, children have their workshops:
– younger children (aged 3-5): between breakfast and lunch,
– older children (aged 6-13): between breakfast and lunch and after lunch until 17.30.

We do not recommend coming to FALA with a child under three years of age. If you have such an idea, be sure to consult us.

FALa SCHEDULE 2024
FALa lasts 10 days: from 26 July to 4 August 2024 (Friday-Sunday). The rule is to participate in the entirety of FALa.
FALa starts with a welcome bonfire and several introductory and organizational meetings, during which, among others, we talk about the rules and sign up for classes. Classes at FALa are divided into two „three-day classes”, between  which there is one day off, dedicated to recreation and rest.

FALa 2024 Framework Schedule:
26 July 2024 (Friday) – Arrivals, integration.
27 July 2024 (Saturday) – Discussion of organizational issues, enrollments for classes and on-call duty.
28 – 30 July 2024 (Sunday – Tuesday) – First three-day event.
31 July 2024 (Wednesday) – Day off.
1 – 3 August 2024 (Thursday – Saturday) – Second three-day show.
August 4, 2024 (Sunday) – Shared cleaning of the resort, trips.

Class agenda
The FALa programme is created on the basis of proposals submitted by the participants. Any person participating in FALa can conduct their classes. The offer of classes can be submitted by filling in the appropriate form, to which the link is sent by people from the program group.
If you have an idea for a class – feel free to submit your proposal!

Organisational issues

Accommodation
FALa 2024 will take place in Kaczy Swamp – the Place of Positive Initiatives (Kurzętnik, near the New Town of Lubawa).

We have 4 types of accommodation:

  • in cottages in multi-bed rooms, some of which are accessible to wheelchair users. These places will first be reserved for wheelchair users and people who come with children;
  • in dormitories: 16 and 10 beds, on bunk beds. One of them will be dedicated only to adults. The 16-person room is located on the first floor of the building and is inaccessible to wheelchair users;
  • in tents imported by the participants.
  • in trailers or campers brought by participants. Parking spaces for trailers will be designated on the campsite or in the meadow near the parking lot. Camper sites will be designated in the meadow near the parking lot. For safety reasons, we want the campsite to be a space where no motor vehicles (including passenger cars and campers) will be allowed to move during FALA

Pets are not allowed to sleep or stay in buildings.

Conditions of stay
In addition to the campsite and sleeping rooms, we have one large building and one smaller one. In the buildings there are: classrooms, a leisure corner (common room), kitchen, bathrooms, isolation room and a terrace / veranda.
Pets are not allowed in all buildings.
Classes will be held in halls in the building or in the open air (depending on the needs of the lecturers and participants as well as the weather).
There are lakes and a forest nearby. The area of the Duck Swamp is partially fenced.
We try to minimize the negative impact of the camp on the environment: we sort garbage, save water and electricity, prepare vegan meals.
A description of the facility in terms of accessibility for people with disabilities can be found here.

Health and safety regulations
Do not come to the Wave if you are a sick or have symptoms of a droplet-borne infectious disease. Arriving in this condition can infect others.
There will be an isolation room available on site for people who fall ill during the camp and will not be able to leave FALa.
We kindly ask that every person coming to the camp have a COVID-19 plate test with them. This will make it easier for us to ensure the safety of other people participating in the camp.

Meals
FALa will be provided with three meals a day, prepared by people from the Duck Swamp – Positive Initiative Sites employed for cooking. FALa is a vegan space in its entirety. We do not eat meat or animal products (including eggs and dairy) in the Duck Swamp – Positive Initiatives Site, nor do we store them in refrigerators or common areas.
If you have special nutritional needs, please write about it in the application form. We will try to answer them.

Kitchen and cleaning shifts
During FALa, we share tasks related to cleaning and serving meals. Each person will perform the kitchen duty several times (setting the table and cleaning after meals, washing dishes and pots) and the cleaning duty (cleaning common areas: bathrooms, classrooms, corridors, dining rooms, etc.).
On-call sign-ups take place at the beginning of FALa.
The people organizing the FALa prepare the place for the arrival of all people, take care of supplies and current organizational issues. For this reason, they are released from duty, but they can participate in them if they wish.
After the FAL, we clean the Duck Swamp – the Place of Positive Initiatives together.

Accessibility
We strive to make FALa as accessible as possible to people with different needs and capabilities.

– Accessibility for people with disabilities.  Here you will find detailed information about the architectural availability of the space in which we organize FALA. The ground floor of both buildings is largely accessible to wheelchair users. We encourage you to contact us if you have any doubts about the availability of the Duck Swamp – Positive Initiative Sites for you. We will try to answer your questions and discuss possible solutions together. For availability, please contact Agata (502 24 67 68, agata.teutsch.new@gmail.com).

– If you have a visual impairment
, please provide us with details at the application stage – we will try to adapt the classes and materials to your needs.  There are no auxiliary solutions in spatial orientation for people with visual disabilities in the building. But – with proper prior discussion of these issues, we will try to use temporary contrast markings on communication routes.

– If you are a person with hearing impairment
and speak Polish Sign Language – read the information below. The spaces in the center are not adapted to the needs of people with hearing disabilities, e.g. there is no induction loop, etc.

– Economic accessibility: scholarships. If you are unable to pay the full fee for participation in FALa, please contact us – we will try to  find an individual solution.

– Translation
. For several years, FALa has been attended by both Polish speakers and people whose first language is Ukrainian, Belarusian or Russian. Deaf people who speak Polish Sign Language (PJM) also participate in FALa. Some of the classes and meetings of the entire community will be translated into these languages (if necessary).

– Assistants:
If you are a person with a hearing, vision or movement disability and need your own assistance, you can come with such a person to the FALA. We offer the possibility of covering the costs of accommodation and meals for assistants.

– Accessibility for neurodiverse people
. If there is anything that will make FALA more accessible to you, please contact us – together we will think about how we can respond to this need.

Stimulants on FALA
During classes in the Duck Swamp – Positive Initiatives Site, it is forbidden to consume and stay under the influence of alcohol and other psychoactive substances.
Outside the buildings, there will be zones where you can smoke cigarettes.
Zones will also be designated where alcohol can be consumed every other day after class hours.

Participation of animals in FALA
It is possible to bring a dog or other animal.
If you plan to bring a pet, please let us know in the application form. Take into account that there are conditions on FALa that may be difficult for him (including a lot of strangers, including children, the presence of other animals, spending time without you when you take part in classes, incomplete fencing of the area). It happened that calm and trouble-free pets, in the FALa – in a new environment and among a large group of people – behaved in an unpredictable way (e.g. previously gentle dogs bit other dogs). It may also happen that FALa will be attended by people who are afraid of animals (e.g. dogs) or are allergic to them. If it turns out that the presence of an animal will limit the possibility of participation of any person or the animal will behave in a burdensome or dangerous way, you will be obliged to take it with FALa. Until now, however, such situations have been very rare.

During FALA, the following rules for the presence of animals apply:
– Pets are not allowed in the buildings. When arriving at the FALA with a pet, plan an overnight stay for them (e.g. a place in a tent); this rule does not apply to guide dogs and assistance dogs.
– You are responsible for your pet and its behaviour, including any damage it may cause. |
– Your task is to clean your pet on a regular basis.
– The general principle of non-violence also applies to animals.
– It will not be possible to use the refrigerator to store food or cook food for animals, so the best solution is, for example, dry food.

Applications for FALA
To apply for the Wave, fill out the application form [click].

Financing and cost of participation in FALA
