Invitation to FALa summer camp 2025 [en]

21st Feminist and Queer Summer Action (FALa) 2025
July 25 – August 3, 2025

WHAT IS FALa?

FALa is a feminist and queer summer camp for women, transgender and non-binary individuals, and children under their care. FALa is a space for growth, mutual empowerment, learning, and regeneration.

By participating in FALa, we strive to make it a safe, inclusive, and co-created space for all who take part.

This means, among other things, that:

  1. We minimize barriers that could hinder signing up for or participating in FALa. We aim to make FALa as accessible as possible for everyone, regardless of ethnic or national origin, citizenship, language, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, health status, level of ability, economic status, and other characteristics or circumstances.
  2. We respect the physical and emotional boundaries of others, including animals. We do not tolerate violence, and if we witness it at FALa or know it has occurred, we take action.
  3. We respect and celebrate diversity. We ensure that during FALa, every participant’s perspective can be expressed, heard, and discussed with respect for all—in the spirit of inclusion, mutual learning, and empowerment.
  4. FALa is co-created by all who participate. The atmosphere and character of each FALa depend on the people who take part.

Anyone who has participated in at least one FALa can apply to help organize future editions. The group preparing FALa changes every year, while the experience of its co-creators ensures continuity.

APPLYING TO FALa

To apply to FALa, fill out the application form. Before filling it out, please read the information in this document carefully.

The form does not have a built-in voice-fill option but is compatible with speech recognition apps.

Participation in FALa is determined by the order of applications and payments.

After filling out the application form, you will receive an email with instructions on how to make the payment.  Once the payment is made, you will receive confirmation of your participation in FALa.

If you cannot fill out the application form on your own, contact us by email at ulica.siostrzana@gmail.com or by phone to Ol: 602 772 005.

COST OF FALa

The fee for participating in FALa is intended to cover the costs of its organization.

The cost of FALa includes: rental of the venue, including accommodation spaces, purchase of food, cleaning supplies, and materials for activities, as well as their transportation, payment for cooks, childcare facilitators, and translators, accounting services, insurance for the organizers, and costs related to organizing FALa such as travel and organizational meetings.

The people preparing FALa do so on a voluntary (unpaid) basis. In return, they are exempt from the participation fee, though they do not have to take advantage of this.

We strive to reduce the costs of FALa by securing financial and material support from sponsors. If you have access to, for example, individuals/companies producing vegan food, cleaning supplies, stationery, or other products useful for FALa—let us know or support FALa with such a donation! ☺

Sisterly support and cost reduction for FALa

If you need a reduction in the cost of FALa or a payment plan, let us know in the application form or by email at ulica.siostrzana@gmail.com.

Anyone whose financial situation prevents them from paying the full cost of participation in FALa can apply for a reduction. A reduction or full coverage of your costs will not affect the possibility of others attending.

If you wish and are able, you can provide sisterly support and pay an amount higher than the fee for your participation in FALa.

Fee for participation in FALa 2025

Payment must be made within 7 days of filling out the application form (you will receive an email with instructions on how to make the payment). The fee can be paid in full or in installments – in this case, a deposit of 400 PLN is required within 7 days of filling out the form.
Once you make the transfer, please let us know – this will help us organize the process more efficiently :)
After your payment is processed, you will receive an email confirming your participation. We usually send these emails at the end of each week.

Activities at FALa are divided into two „three-day blocks,” with one free day in between for recreation and rest. No activities are scheduled on this day, and it can be spent freely (e.g., going to the lake, lying on the grass, etc.).

FALa 2025 Program

Activities at FALa are led by participants. Every participant can propose and lead one or more activities—whether a workshop, discussion, movement-based, or art-based session. If you have an idea for an activity, please mention it in the application form!

PARTICIPANTS AT FALa

FALa is dedicated to adults.

You can attend with children.

FALa can accommodate approximately 80 people in total, including around 65 adults and 15 children over the age of 5.

Participation of minors

The following can participate in FALa:

  • Girls, non-binary, and transgender children aged 5-12;
  • Cisgender boys aged 5-10—if they have not attended FALa before—and cisgender boys up to 11 years old—if they have attended FALa before.
  • IPersons aged 13-18 (girls, non-binary, and transgender children) participate in FALa under the same conditions as adults—with the consent and under the care of their guardians. This means they can participate in adult activities, take on duties, and their participation cost corresponds to the adult fee.

During adult activities, children have their own workshops—between breakfast and lunch, and between lunch and dinner.

The age ranges have been established based on experiences from previous years, and no changes are anticipated.

ACCOMMODATION CONDITIONS

FALa 2025 will take place at Kacze Bagno – Miejsce Inicjatyw Pozytywnych in the town of Kurzętnik, near Nowe Miasto Lubawskie.

At Kacze Bagno, we will have access to:

  • A (mostly) fenced area of the venue,
  • A campsite,
  • Residential cabins,
  • A main building with rooms for activities, a common room, a kitchen, and bathrooms,
  • A smaller building with multi-bed sleeping rooms, a children’s room, and bathrooms.

All buildings have verandas and/or terraces. A refrigerator will be available on one of the terraces.

A description of the venue in terms of accessibility for people with disabilities can be found here.

Activities will take place either indoors or outdoors, depending on the needs and preferences of the facilitators and participants, as well as the weather.

We strive to minimize the negative impact of the camp on the natural environment: we sort waste, save water and electricity, and prepare vegan meals.

Near the venue, there are lakes, a forest, and… a Biedronka store :)

ACCOMMODATION
At FALa, the following types of sleeping arrangements are available:

  • Cabins with multi-bed rooms: One of them is wheelchair accessible. These spaces will be prioritized for individuals who require such conditions for health reasons and for those arriving with children.
  • Dormitory rooms: A 16-person room and a 10-person room with bunk beds. One of these rooms will be dedicated exclusively to adults (until spaces are filled).
  • Campsite: For tents brought by participants.
  • Space for trailers or campers: Brought by participants. Spaces for trailers will be designated on the campsite or on a meadow near the parking area. Spaces for campers will be designated on a meadow near the parking area. For safety reasons, we ask that no motorized vehicles (including cars and campers) drive around the campsite during FALa.

MEALS

FALa is a vegan space. At Kacze Bagno – Miejsce Inicjatyw Pozytywnych, we do not eat meat or animal products (including eggs, dairy, and sweets containing eggs or milk), nor do we store them in refrigerators or common areas.

During FALa, three meals a day will be provided, prepared by the staff of Kacze Bagno – Miejsce Inicjatyw Pozytywnych.

If you have special dietary needs, please mention this in the application form. We will work together to find a solution.

KITCHEN AND CLEANING DUTIES

During FALa, we share tasks related to cleaning and serving meals. Each person will take on kitchen duties (setting tables, cleaning up after meals, washing dishes and pots) and cleaning duties (cleaning common areas: bathrooms, activity rooms, hallways, dining areas, etc.) several times. The number of duties depends on the number of adults registered for FALa (usually 2-3 duties per person).

The organizers of FALa prepare the venue for everyone’s arrival, handle supplies, and manage ongoing organizational matters. For this reason, they are exempt from kitchen and cleaning duties, but they may participate if they wish.

After FALa ends, we all clean up Kacze Bagno – Miejsce Inicjatyw Pozytywnych together.

HEALTH

We want FALa to be a safe space, including in terms of health. Do not come to FALa if you are sick or have symptoms of an infectious disease transmitted through droplets. Arriving in such a condition could infect others.

An isolation room will be available at FALa, which can also be used, for example, in case of a migraine.

A first aid kit with basic supplies will be available on-site, but it does not contain medications. If you need to take medication, please bring your own.

The nearest healthcare facility and hospital are located 4 km from Kacze Bagno.

ACCESSIBILITY

We strive to make FALa as accessible as possible. At the same time, we recognize that accessibility is a process, not a fixed state.

Accessibility for people with disabilities

You can find detailed information about the architectural accessibility of the venue here

Please note that the terrain at Kacze Bagno (campsite, areas between buildings) is grassy, which may make movement more challenging.

If you have a visual impairment, please let us know during the application process—we will do our best to adapt activities and materials to your needs. While the building does not have permanent solutions to assist with spatial orientation for people with visual impairments, if we discuss this in advance, we can apply temporary high-contrast markings in walkways and provide you with the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the area upon arrival.

If you are a person with a hearing impairment:

The venue is not equipped with solutions for people with hearing impairments, such as induction loops. If you use Polish Sign Language (PJM), please read the information below about translation services.

Translation

For several years, FALa has been a multilingual space. To facilitate communication, we hire translators for some activities and community meetings.

Translators work between Polish and other languages (depending on needs; in the past, these have included Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian) as well as between spoken Polish and Polish Sign Language (PJM). The type of translation provided depends on the needs expressed during registration, so if you require translation, please let us know when filling out the application form.

Translation services cover only scheduled activities and community meetings. Translators do not provide translation for casual conversations during meals, around the campfire, etc.

Personal assistants

If you are a person with a disability, you can bring a personal assistant to FALa. You will not need to cover the participation costs for this person.

Accessibility for neurodivergent individuals

Based on our needs and past experiences, we are exploring solutions to make FALa more accessible for neurodivergent individuals.

We organize quiet spaces where you can spend time alone, including during meals, such as „silent tables” where no conversations take place. Sensory toys, noise-canceling headphones, and bracelets/bands to signal when you prefer not to engage socially will also be available.

Financial accessibility
We want FALa to be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means. Therefore, discounts and sisterly support are available. For more information, see the section on COSTS OF FALa.

If there is something that would make FALa more accessible for you, or if you have questions about accessibility, please contact us at: ulica.siostrzana@gmail.com.

SUBSTANCES AT FALa

For the entire duration of FALa 2025, the use of mind-altering substances (including alcohol) or being under their influence will not be allowed on the premises.

Smoking (including e-cigarettes) will only be permitted in a designated area outside the buildings and away from the campfire.

ANIMALS

You can bring your dog or other pet to FALa. Local animals also live at Kacze Bagno: chickens (in a fenced area) and a cat.

If you plan to bring a pet, please read the information in here and mention it in the application form. We will contact you to arrange an online meeting where we will explain what it’s like to have pets at FALa and answer your questions and concerns.

CANCELLING YOUR PARTICIPATION IN FALa

If you cancel your participation in FALa after making the payment:

By May 15, 2025 You will receive a full refund
Between May 16 and June 15, 2025 You will receive a 50% refund

The organizers of FALa and the Juniper Foundation are not responsible for the cancellation, shortening, or any other changes to FALa 2025 resulting from force majeure, understood as sudden, unforeseen external circumstances.
